Way back in March, Spencer's mom came for a visit. She wanted to go on a little trip with us and so we decided to make a trip to Chicago. It was our first overnight trip with 3 kids and boy were we glad for Grandma's help! I do have to say things went pretty smoothly and we had a really fun time. And I actually took pictures-on my good camera!
Our first stop was the Field Museum. Liam has been fascinated by mummies for probably a year now and so he was eager to see a real mummy in Chicago. As it turns out, there were lots of real mummies and they did not disappoint this budding Egyptologist.
There was also a really great hands-on kids' area. The corn picking was a big hit.
So were the drums.
We even got a picture where all 5 of us are together-thanks Grandma!
When the museum closed, we decided to walk the mile to Millennium park.
We had lots of fun taking pictures and enjoying the "warm" (40 degree) weather. However, it took longer than we expected which lead to a later night than we had planned.
This led to a dinner of room service at 10 pm after a failed attempt at Rick Bayless' restaurant. The kids thought it was fantastic.
The next day we went to the Museum of Science and Industry-which was amazing! They had a special exhibit on Walt Disney and this "Little Mermaid" fan was excited.

The rest of the trip lacks pictures but it was no less fun. We met up with Spencer's sister Jeni and family later that night and Grandma babysat 7 kids so that the parents could attend the temple AND go out to dinner after. It was a real treat. Sunday morning we enjoyed breakfast at Walker Bros. Pancake House, Sacrament meeting and Lou Malnati's pizza (for a second time-I think we decided it edges out Gino's East as our favorite Chicago Deep Dish) before saying good-bye to the Owen's and heading home. It was a great little weekend get-away.
